Chiaki Morita Washi Paper Fans
Chiaki Morita is an artist working primarily with Japanese washi paper to make a variety of products including ethereal washi lace fans, of which many are naturally dyed with indigo. Morita brings this time honored traditional craft of Japanese paper making into a contemporary context and makes it her own in these exquisite objects. She grows Kōzo trees in her own garden and transforms the inner bark into the fibers used to make the thick pulp which ultimately becomes washi paper. Morita has shared her work in exhibitions throughout Japan.
This style is a traditional Japanese fan made of handmade paper applied to a split bamboo frame and are all made in Japan by hand.
